Louisiana Breeders' Program - Louisiana-Bred Incentive Awards
Worldwide Breeders Awards - When a Louisiana-bred foal finishes 1st, 2nd, or 3rd anywhere else in the world, (including the United States) the breeder gets a Breeders Award. Breeders Awards are currently paid at 20% for a 1st, 2nd, or 3rd place finish in any stakes race of $25,000, or more at any out-of-state track with the breeders award capped on a maximum purse of $150,000.
In State Breeders Awards - Currently paid at 20% of purse money earned for a 1st, 2nd, or 3rd place finish at all four Louisiana racetracks.
Restricted Races - By state law, every track in the state must offer 3 races every day of a live meet that are restricted to accredited Louisiana-breds. One of these events is designated as a Special Accredited LA Maiden (SALAM) race.
Purse Supplements - Restricted Louisiana-bred races are always enhanced by purse supplements. Often the restricted race for state-breds wil offer a higher purse than an pen race with the same conditions. These supplements come from the Video Poker, in the Louisiana Thoroughbred Breeders Association's portion of the OTB funds, Breakage and Slot Machines at the tracks.
Multiple State Bred Days - Louisiana is the only state with more than one State Bred Day. Louisiana offers four days: Louisiana Champions Day in December at Fair Grounds, Louisiana Premeir Night in February at Delta Downs, Louisiana Downs Champions Day at Louisiana Downs in August and Louisiana Legends Night at Evangeline Downs in conjunction with the July 4th racing program.
Stallion Awards - Louisiana offers a stallion awards program based on a 1st, 2nd, or third in Allowance, Handicap and Stakes races in the state, and Stakes races out of the state.
